Converting these articles to web pages reminded me again of the great changes in communications over the past half century. For me, the evolution went something like this:
- Manual typewriter, paper manuscript, mailed to publisher;
- Electric typewriter, paper manuscript, mailed to publisher;
- Personal computer (and retyping what was written on the screen on an electric typewriter), paper manuscript, mailed to publisher;
- Personal computer and dot-matrix printer, paper manuscript, mailed to publisher;
- Personal computer and daisy-wheel printer, paper manuscript, mailed to publisher;
- Graphical computer and dot-matrix printer capable of producing graphic content, paper manuscript, mailed to publisher;
- Graphical computer and laser printer, paper manuscript, mailed to publisher;
- Graphical computer and electronic manuscript, e-mailed word processor file sent directly to publisher;
- Graphical computer directly to web page.
