Gamla Stan (Old Town) is famed for its narrow, winding streets. A strong sense of history, plus Swedish common sense, has helped preserved the streets much as they have existed for hundreds of years. Most streets permit only small delivery vehicles; foot traffic and bicycles are the normal mode of transport. Some streets are barely wide enough for a bicycle.
