Living in Gamla Stan (Old Town) is expensive: it is centrally located between the government offices and business district to the north, and the "modern" southern part of Stockholm, Södermalm. It is also very quiet: except for people walking the streets, and possibly a band playing during a changing of the guard at the Royal Palace, the area is virtually silent.
