Birdoswald Roman Fort was known in Roman times as Banna, and was one of sixteen forts along Hadrian's Wall as it ran from coast to coast. It is set on a rise overlooking the River Irthing, giving it a clear view of all the surrounding area -- a perfect place for barbarian watching. © 2004 Lawrence I. Charters |
