Replica
of the Seat of Scone, or Stone of Scone, on Moot Hill, Scone
Palace, Perth. As the traditional seat of Scottish kings during
their coronations for a thousand years, the Seat of Scone had
great importance. King Edward I, intent on subduing the Scots,
looted the Stone and took it to Westminster, where it was
used in English coronation ceremonies. Scottish Nationalists
stole the Stone for four months during 1950, but it was found
and returned to Westminster. In 1996, the Stone was moved from
Westminster to Edinburgh Castle. © 2004 Lawrence I. Charters |
