Monument to Confederate Lieutenant General James Longstreet on Seminary Ridge, Gettysburg. Longstreet argued with General Robert E. Lee on the wisdom of sending Longstreet's corps in a frontal attack against the Union position across a mile of open field. Longstreet was a big man, but this bronze statue makes it appear he is riding a Shetland pony. © 2006 Lawrence I. Charters |
