Rail fence on the field that separated Seminary Ridge,
where the Confederate forces concentrated, and Cemetary Ridge, one mile
away. These rail fences, built without nails, presented huge problems to
the Confederates as they marched, in ranks, the mile distance to the Union
lines. The Confederates marched under fire, disassembled fences as they
came to them, reformed ranks, and continued their march. The focus of the
Confederate attack was the clump of trees you see along the skyline on
