Iceland's only international airport is in Keflavik, about 40 kilometers from the outskirts of the capital, Reykjavik. The airport was originally built by the US Navy in World War II as a base for hunting Axis submarines, and a refueling and air ferry stop for transferring planes betwen the U.S. and Europe. This glass sculpture, hanging from the roof of the terminal building, is one of two telling the story of Prometheus, which is kind of an odd topic for an air terminal. © 2004 Lawrence I. Charters |
