The island on which Castle Loch Leven rests was originally much smaller, with the water coming almost up to the castle walls. Between 1826 and 1836 the water level of Loch Leven was lowered by four feet, and in the process the island was enlarged from roughly two acres to eight acres, permitting the creation of this nice lawn. © 2004 Lawrence I.
