Ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral, St. Andrews. Some sort of Christian church has been on this site since 732, when relics of St. Andrews were brought to the area by Bishop Acca. The square tower at the rear is actually part of St. Rule's Church, and dates to about 1130. To the right is the West Gable of St. Andrews Cathedral, started in 1160 and consecreated in 1318. This gable is the southern part of a pair that graced the front wall of the cathedral. © 2004 Lawrence I. Charters |
