Castle Urquhart gatehouse, Historic Scotland (the agency that
preserves Scottish cultural properties) has installed this stainless
steel spiral staircase. At no point does the staircase touch
the walls of the gatehouse. Though subtle, it is an impressive
display of preservation and conservation mixed in with safety
