Paternoster elevator inside the Arts Tower, University of Sheffield. A paternoster elevator is named after the Catholic rosary. Like the rosary, the elevator is a closed loop (a second entrance is to the left of the photo). It is constantly in motion, and you step on and off without stopping the elevator, which has no doors.
