Castle Urquhart (pronounced "urkhurt"), is about midpoint down Loch Ness, on the northern shore. It is built on a rocky outcropping with 600-foot deep waters on three sides and a "big ditch" on the landward side. The site was rumored to be a Pict fort visited by St. Columba in 597. © 2004 Lawrence I. Charters
